Why you need a website, whoever you are.
A profile is a room in someone else’s building. A website is the building.

Before anyone meets you, they look you up. What they find is a handful of pages written by other people for other reasons: a listing, an old article, a profile on a platform that decides what to show.
A website of your own changes who is speaking. It is the one place on the internet where you decide what is said first, what is said clearly and what is left out. Readers, journalists and search engines all treat it as the primary source, because it is.
It also outlasts the platforms. Profiles change their rules, feeds bury old work and accounts get closed. An address you own keeps working, and everything else you do online can point back to it.
You do not need a large site. You need a clear one: who you are, what you have done, the proof, and a way to reach you. That is the whole job, and it only has to be done once and kept up.
